This year, HPNE hosted physicians from various specialities and positions within medical centers/organizations, academics, and insurance sectors. HPNE is essentially a meet and greet for all UT pre-medical students with current physicians.

Our Speakers
Dr. Robert Buchanan, M.D.
Neurosurgeon + Psychiatrist
Dr. Robert Buchanan is a Neurosurgeon and Psychiatrist with a fellowship in stereotactic & functional neurosurgery at Yale and Psychopharmacology and Psychobiology in the National Institute of Mental Health Research Unit. He is a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at UT and was appointed to serve on the Vatican's International Bioethics Committee.

Dr. Kanakadurga Govindaraju, M.D.
Family Medicine
Dr. Kanakadurga Govindaraju is a family medicine doctor. She has completed internships at Hurley Medical Center and Government General Hospital. She is now affiliated with multiple Ascension hospitals in Texas and her primary location is TMF Health Quality Institute here in Austin.

Dr. Sujata Jere, M.D.
Family Medicine
Dr. Sujata Jere is board certified in family medicine. She has made several appearances on news channels giving advice ranging from nutrition tips to making the public aware of breast cancer risks. Dr. Jere is currently an affiliate faculty at Dell Medical school, Population Health Department, and the Associate Chief Medical Officer at Austin Diagnostic Clinic since 2018.

Dr. Deepa Narayanan, M.D.
Family Medicine
Dr. Narayanan is a board certified physician, with expertise in primary and urgent care. She has worked in major hospitals like Parkland Hospital in Dallas to local clinics like Urgent Care Plus in Austin. She serves as a Board of Director in a telemedicine platform called HealisHealth.com, which provides affordable care to uninsured patients. Currently, she works as a Medical Director for United Healthcare and provides direct patient care via RecuroHealth.

Dr. Maryam Saif, M.D.
Internal Medicine
Board certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Saif currently practices at Hospital Internists of Texas and specializes in hospital medicine. Dr. Saif is affiliated with multiple hospitals such as the Central Texas Veterans Health Care system-temple, Ascension Health, and St. David's Medical Center.

Dr. Ajay Tripuraneni, M.D.
Electrophysiologist
Dr. Tripuraneni is a board certified clinical cardiac electrophysiologist and internal medicine doctor. He completed three fellowships: a cardiology fellowship in 2011, a clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowship in 2012 and a cardiac electrophysiology fellowship in 2018. He is now affiliated with several Baylor Scott & White Medical Centers in Texas.

Dr. Richard Declan Fleming, M.D.
Surgical Oncologist
Dr. Fleming is a surgical oncologist in UT Health Austin’s Surgical Oncology Clinic. He also acts as the assistant professor and the Division Chief of Surgical Oncology for the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. Plus, Dr. Fleming partakes in minimizing the stress and potential chaos of a cancer diagnosis via the UT Health Austin’s CaLM Care Team.

Dr. Joseph Graham, M.D.
Anesthesiologist
Dr. Joseph Graham is a board certified anesthesiologist who has a fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesiology after completing his residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School back in 2018. He is now affiliated with Ascension Seton Northwest here in Austin.

Dr. Hajra Madani, M.D.
Internal Medicine
Dr. Hajra Madani is a highly experienced internal medicine specialist with 27 years of expertise in Austin, TX. Board-certified in internal medicine and a graduate of Dow University of Health Sciences, she is affiliated with several Ascension-Seton hospitals, including Ascension Seton Hays, Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, and Ascension Seton Williamson within Austin.

Dr. Varun Pattisapu, M.D.
Cardiologist
Dr. Varun Pattisapu specializes in cardiology. Now, Dr. Pattisapu is the current Chief Cardiology Fellow at Dell Medical School at UT Austin. His interests in non-invasive cardiology include preventive/lipid management, women’s cardiology, and multimodal cardiac imaging.

Dr. Arathi Shah, M.D.
Pediatrician
Dr. Arathi Shah is a primary care pediatrician board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is affiliated with several hospitals in the Austin Area. She is the Secretary of the International Medical Graduate Section of the Texas Medical Association and Co-chair of the Community & School Health Committee and Committee on Administration & Practice Management of the Texas Pediatric Society.

Dr. Lindsay Wood, M.D.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Dr. Lindsay Wood is double board certified in OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine and a practicing Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist. Additionally, she is an Assistant Professor of Women’s Health at UT Dell Med, the Clinical Director of Ultrasound for Women’s Health, and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the Ascension-Seton System.
